ULM Falls 3-0 to Texas State

MONROE, La. -- The Warhawks dropped a 3-0 tilt to Texas State Friday night at Fant-Ewing Coliseum.  It was the first meeting between the two teams at ULM since 2005.

Marcela Araya collected a match-high 27 digs while Hadley Swartz also led the match with 10 kills. Hope Pawlik tallied nine kills to help lead the ULM attack.

"Marcela coming up with 27 digs is all-star status.  She pushes herself to be better and better.  She'll look at those 27 digs and find a dig that she should have made and she didn't.  That's the kind of player she is and we like having her on our team," ULM head coach Patrick Hiltz said.

The Warhawks (6-25, 2-13 Sun Belt) and Bobcats (19-11, 9-6 SBC) battled to 13 ties and exchanged the lead six times in the opening set. ULM led as late as 17-16, but a Texas State took off over the final points, outscoring the Warhawks 9-3 to close the set.  Araya was already on her way to an outstanding night at the libero spot, recording 12 digs in the opening frame.

The Bobcats kept all of the momentum and took the final two sets by scores of 25-13 and 25-15.

"From a hitting standpoint, we didn't hit well and the did.  The frustrating part about that is we knew where to hit, we just didn't.  When we hit aggressively torwards the spots we knew were open, we had success.  When we got tentative and didn't know where we wanted to put the ball, they gobbled it up or we made an error and transistioned it for points," Hiltz added.

"We have to do a better job of processing the information that we know to be true and using it to our advantage."

ULM visits South Alabama for its final road match of the season Sunday afternoon.  First serve is at 1 p.m.
