LAKE CHARLES, La. -- Playing its only road game during a four-game, seven-day stretch, the ULM women's basketball team dropped a 78-63 decision to McNeese State Wednesday night at Burton Coliseum.
McNeese State (5-3) held a 39-31 lead at intermission thanks to a 13-for-13 mark at the charity stripe. The Warhawks (3-4) were able to close the gap to just four points at the 17:50 mark of the second half. Ashleigh Simmons scored ULM's first six points of the second half as they cut into the lead and trailed, 41-37.
A four-minute scoring drought midway through the half doomed the Warhawks as the club was unable to get any closer as the Cowgirls eventually pushed its lead back to double digits en route to the 15-point victory.
Simmons led the Warhawks as she recorded her fourth straight double-double with 22 points and 11 rebounds. Jasmine Shaw also reached double figures as she totaled 14 points.
Allison Bagget led the Cowgirls with 22 points.
The two teams battled back-and-forth during the first 20 minutes and both teams made 12 field goals, with the Warhawks hitting one more three pointer than the Cowgirls.
ULM will return to action Friday evening as it hosts Grand Canyon in the 2013 Clarion Warhawk Classic Presented by Cypress Inn. Game two of the evening is slated for 7 p.m., the night begins with Alcorn State and East Carolina at 5 p.m.
