LAS VEGAS -- The ULM women's basketball team closed out the 2013 Duel in the Desert hosted by UNLV with a 79-57 setback to DePaul Saturday at the Cox Pavilion.
ULM (4-8) and DePaul (8-3) battled back and forth over the first few minutes of Sautrday's game but the Blue Demons used a 21-4 run to take control of the game and DePaul carried a 43-19 lead into the locker room at the break.
After shooting under 30 percent in the first half, the Warhawks rallied to shoot nearly 60 percent from the floor in the final 20 minutes. ULM finished the final frame with a 13-of-22 mark from the floor.
The Warhawks out scored the Blue Demons, 38-36, in the second half.
Sharnice Brooks led the Warhawks with 11 points, while Ashleigh Simmons was the team's leading rebounder with seven boards.
Jasmine Penny led a quartet of Blue Demons in double figures as she finished with 16 points.
ULM's Simmons was one of five players to earn a spot on the All-Tournament team for the Gray Bracket. Joining the senior forward on the All-Tournament team was Brianna Kiesel (Pittsburgh), Jazmine Davis (Washington), Brittany Hrynko (DePaul) and Chanise Jenkins (MVP; DePaul).
ULM will return to action on Jan. 4 when it opens Sun Belt Conference play against UL-Lafayette.
