MONROE, La. -- Junior
Millaun Brown recorded a career-high
21 points and ULM battled back from a 15-point second half deficit for a 85-73
victory over North Texas Thursday night inside Fant-Ewing Coliseum. It marked
the second victory for the Warhawks over the Mean Green this season and ULM's
900th career victory.
The Warhawks (4-17, 3-12 SBC) shot 63.3 percent in the
second half and utilized a 32-8 run midway through the half to take
control.
Brown became the fourth different ULM player to score
20-plus points this season as he finished 9-of-10 from the field and pulled
down eight rebounds.
Junior Amos Olatayo
chipped in 22 points and seven rebounds, marking the seventh time he has
surpassed 20 points this season. Sophomore Trent
Mackey connected on 5-of-7 from 3-point range to finish with 18 points and
junior R.J. McCray added 10 points
and six assists for the Warhawks.
North Texas (9-18, 4-12 SBC) controlled much of the first 23
minutes, leading by as many as 15 points with 16:41 left in the second half. The
Warhawks came roaring back into the contest, using an 18-2 run to regain the
lead and a 14-6 spurt to take a 69-60 lead with 5:45 remaining. During the run,
ULM held North Texas without a field goal for five full minutes.
The Warhawks led by as many as 14 with just under 30 seconds
remaining. It marked the second time this season that ULM has scored over 80
points - both against North Texas.
Roger Franklin
and Jordan Williams each scored 22
points to lead the Mean Green. Franklin added 11 rebound for a double-double. Tony Mitchell and Alzee Williams added 10 points each.
ULM led 20-14 with 11:14 remaining in the first half and had
a one point edge with 4:11 left before halftime, but the Mean Green closed out
the opening half on a 15-5 spurt to take a 42-33 edge at the break. ULM shot 48
percent (12-of-25) from the floor in the opening half, while North Texas shot
at a 51.9 percent clip (14-of-27).
The Mean Green opened the second half on a 10-4 run to build
its largest lead of the game at 52-37 before ULM rallied for its largest
comeback victory of the season.
The Warhawks are back in action Saturday when they host
Arkansas State. The game is slated for a 4 p.m. tipoff.
