FAYETTEVILLE, Ark.
- Arkansas cruised to a 14-3 victory over ULM Friday afternoon in the teams'
first game in the Arkansas Invitational at Bogle Park. The Warhawks suffered
their third straight loss of the season
Arkansas (13-4) used a huge first inning to build a 9-0 lead
over ULM (5-5) and never looked back.
Devon Wallace led
off the Razorback first inning with a double. It was the first of a chain of five
hits and a walk before the Warhawks recorded an out. The scoring started when Clarisa Navarro drove Wallace home on
an RBI single. One batter later, Amanda
Geile floated a single to center to drive in the second Arkansas run. The blow of the inning was Nicole Schroeder's grand slam off ULM
Starter Stephanie Routzon. It gave
the Razorbacks a 6-0 lead. Gee reached on a fielder's choice then scored on a Chloe Oprzedek triple. It was quickly
9-0 after Wallace-the 10th batter of the inning-homered to deep
right center with two runners on and only one out. ULM eventually got out of
the inning, but the damage was done.
In the top of the second, ULM had the bases loaded with no
one out. Mackenzie Miller struck out,
but the Warhawks did scratch a run across on a Faith Bohack RBI ground out. Kayla Boening floated a two-run triple
down the right field line to make it 9-3 Razorbacks.
The Razorbacks added an insurance run in the home half of
the third after an RBI ground out to make it 10-3.
Obrzedek launched the Razorbacks' second grand slam of the
day in the bottom of the fourth to give Arkansas a 14-3 lead and the eventual
run-rule defeat.
Boening and Haley
McCall each had two hits for the Warhawks.
Arkansas' Chelsea
Cohen pitched all five innings and struck out 10 Warhawks.
ULM continues the Arkansas Invitational tomorrow against
Saint Louis and Murray State.
