MONROE, La. -- Ole
Miss (17-1) scored runs in four of the first six innings en route to a 10-4
victory over ULM (8-8) Tuesday night at Warhawk Field.
The Rebels plated a single run in each of the first two
innings before pushing three runs across in the top of the fourth inning to
stake a 5-0 lead. Preston Overbey
highlighted the Ole Miss fourth with a two-RBI double down the left field line.
ULM scored its first run of the contest in the home half
of the fifth inning. Dalton Herrington
recorded the first hit of the game with a double to right center. After stealing third, Herrington scored on
Jeff Fuller's RBI single up the middle to cut the deficit to four runs (5-1).
Ole Miss tacked on three runs in the sixth as Austin
Anderson cleared the bases with a double to give the visitor's a 8-1 advantage.
The Warhawks responded with three runs of their own in
the bottom of the seventh. Kodie
Tidwell, Herrington and Chris Dudley all touched home plate as the Warhawks
again trimmed the Rebel lead to four (8-4).
The Rebels tallied two runs in the ninth to conclude the
scoring and claim a 10-4 victory.
Herrington led the Warhawks with two hits (both doubles)
and two runs. Starting pitcher Cale Wine
fell to 2-2 on the season after allowing two earned runs on three hits with one
walk and one strikeouts in two innings of work.
Ole Miss starter Josh Laxer (2-0) earned the win after
allowing three runs on three hits with two walks and four strikeouts in 6.1
innings on the hill. The Rebels were led
by Austin Anderson and Preston Overbey as the duo combined for four hits and
six RBI.
ULM and Ole Miss will complete the two-game midweek
series tomorrow night with first pitch slate for 6 p.m.
Jared Dye (Jr., RH, 1-1) is the projected starter
for the Warhawks, while the Rebels will counter with Brady Bramlett (Fr., RH,
2-0).
