La. -- The ULM tennis team came from behind to defeat
UL-Lafayette, 4-3, on Friday for its fourth straight victory. The Warhawks
(10-1) trailed 3-1 before winning the final three singles matches to earn the
victory.
With the match tied at 3-all, freshman Petra Horakova
defeated ULL's Hannah Appleyard, 5-7, 6-3, 6-2, at No. 6 singles to clinch the
match.
Sophomore Silvia Tumova earned the first singles point of
the match for the Warhawks, 6-2, 6-2, over Ahlqvist at the No. 3 position to
cut the ULL lead to 3-2. Junior Medy Blankvoort improved to 10-1 in singles
play this season with a 7-5, 6-1 victory over Nicole Breaux at the No. 2
position to tie the match 3-all.
The Warhawks cruised to the doubles point to improve to 11-0
in doubles competition this spring. Blankvoort and freshman Justyna Krol
defeated Baley VanDyke and Hannah Appleyard, 8-2, at No. 3 doubles and Tumova
and Horakova followed with an 8-5 win over Melissa Burkhartt and Sandra
Ahlqvist at the No. 2 position to clinch the first point of the match.
Sophomore Ema Turudija and sophomore Sophie Rufyikiri also
won, 8-6, at the No. 1 position.
The Ragin' Cajuns (10-7) responded by winning the first
three singles points to take a 3-1 advantage. Burckhartt defeated Krol, 6-2,
6-2, at the No. 4 position, S. Van den Aarssen topped Rufyikiri, 6-2, 6-2, at
the No. 1 position and VanDyke beat Turudija, 7-5, 6-2, at the No. 5 position.
ULM faces North Texas on Saturday at noon in Lafayette, La.
