TROY, Ala. – ULM (13-17, 0-5 Sun Belt) dropped both games Saturday afternoon at Troy (14-18, 4-3 Sun Belt). The day opened with the Trojans handling the Warhawks 12-0 in a five-inning, three-hit shutout. ULM put forth a valiant comeback effort in game two but fell short 8-6 on a walk-off home run.
GAME ONE – Troy 12, ULM 0 (5 innings)
Troy used an eight-run scoring outburst in the bottom of the third to eclipse ULM 12-0.
The Trojans began the frame with Hannah Renn's leadoff blast. Chandler Griffin added a two-out solo home run to give Troy a 2-0 lead. Six more runs came across on four hits and two bases-loaded walks after a costly ULM miscue. Bailey Blake's two-run double proved to be the big blow. The knock gave Troy a 5-0 lead at the time.
Troy added four more runs in the bottom of the fourth. Taylor Smartt's solo home run got the scoring started. The Trojans used a pair of doubles to go up 11-0. A two-out triple from Caitlin Ortiz drove in the 12th run.
Elena DiMattia singled in the top of the third to break up Sarah Thomas' no-hit bid. ULM added two more hits in the contest, both in the top of the fifth.
GAME TWO – Troy 8, ULM 6
ULM's bats came alive for six runs on eight hits, but it wasn't enough to surpass Troy in the nightcap. The Trojans' Kacie McAllister's walk-off two-run blast with two out gave Troy the 8-6 victory.
Troy got on the board first in the bottom of the second. Keelie Housley slapped an RBI single through the middle of the infield, but that was all until the Troy fifth inning.
The Trojans got two bases-loaded walks in addition to McCallister's three-run, two-out double in the inning that gave them a 6-0 lead.
ULM answered with a big inning of its own in the top of the sixth. Haley McCall doubled to lead off the frame and scored on Alexis Cacioppo's RBI single. Janel Salanoa chipped in an RBI single. Two more runs scored on two Troy errors in the inning and made it 6-4.
The Warhawks tied the game at six in the top of the seventh on Kayla Prater's bases-loaded single through the middle of the infield, but it wasn't enough.
ULM concludes the three-game series with Troy tomorrow at 1 p.m.
