LITTLE ROCK, Ark. -- ULM (10-18, 1-8) scored the first three of the runs of Sunday's contest but were unable to keep the momentum going as UALR (14-14, 3-6) claimed a 13-3 victory at Gary Hogan Field.
The Warhawks started Sunday's contest with four consecutive hits as the squad took an early 3-0 lead. Brandon Alexander and Judd Edwards tallied back-to-back singles through the left side, followed by Corben Green's RBI single up the middle. Edwards was able to move to third and Green advanced to second to give ULM two runners in scoring position with no outs. Taylor Abdalla drove in Edwards and Green with a two-RBI double to the gap in right center to push the Warhawk lead to three runs after the top of the first.
UALR scored its first run of the contest in the home half of the first. Ben Crumpton led off the inning with a double down the left field line and later scored on Blake Johnson's RBI groundout to trim the deficit to two runs (3-1).
ULM loaded the bases in the top of the second inning thanks to a pair of walks and a hit-by-pitch, but the visitors were unable to push any runs across as Dalton Herrington grounded out to second to end the inning.
Warhawk starter Carey Taylor was replaced by reliever Tyler Bray after Taylor allowed three straight singles to start the bottom of the fifth. Sam Vogel evened the contest at 3-3 with a two-RBI double to center. Following a walk by Bryson Thionnet, Ben Crumpton gave UALR a 4-3 lead with a RBI single through the left side. Blake Johnson later cleared the bases with a three-RBI double to the gap in right center to push the Trojan lead to five (8-3).
UALR added two more runs in the bottom of the sixth as Austin Pfeiffer drove in a pair with a single up the middle to push the Trojans lead to 10-3.
The Trojans put the game away with three runs in the bottom of the seventh as they claimed a 13-3 win Sunday in a shortened contest due to Sun Belt Conference rule (10-run rule on final day of series).
Taylor (1-3) took the loss after allowing four runs on four hits with one walk and three strikeouts as he pitched into the fifth. Taylor Abdalla lead the Warhawks with two hits and two RBI.
UALR starter Ethan Schlechte earned the win to even his record at 3-3 after allowing three runs on four hits with three walks and six punchouts in six innings of work. Austin Pfeiffer led the Trojans with two hits and four RBI in the series finale.
ULM will return to the diamond Tuesday evening as it welcomes Grambling State to Warhawk Field for a 6 p.m. contest.
