LAKE CHARLES, La. -- ULM (13-20) committed three errors Tuesday night and didn't score until the ninth inning as it fell to McNeese State (18-13) by a score of 6-2 at Cowboy Diamond.
McNeese State plated the first run of the game as it drew a bases loaded walk with two outs in the bottom of the first. With the bases full, Matt Williams picked up a RBI as Connor Lloyd crossed home plate to put the Cowboys in front, 1-0.
In the bottom of the third, Chayse Marion was hit by a pitch and later moved two second on an error by Dalton Todd. With one out, Michael Sullivan connected on a two-run homer over the wall in left center to push the Cowboys lead to 3-0.
McNeese State added two unearned runs in the home half of the fourth to push its lead to 5-0. Hans Ask reached on an error by Kodie Tidwell and later scored on a RBI double by Andrew Guillotte. With Guillotte standing on third after a balk by ULM reliever Andrew Richardson, Connor Lloyd picked up a RBI groundout as Guillotte crossed home.
The Cowboys added a single run in the seventh as Lloyd scored (unearned) on Sullivan's RBI single to left to take a 6-0 lead.
ULM finally broke through with a pair of runs in the top of the ninth inning. Chris Dudley scored the first run of the game for the Warhawks on Judd Edwards' RBI triple. Edwards scored the second and final run of the game for ULM on Dalton Herrington's RBI single.
Warhawk starter Christo Jones (0-1) suffered the loss after surrendering one run on four walks with one strikeout in one-plu inning of work. Dudley led ULM with two hits and one run.
Trey McGee (2-2) earned the win after tossing six shutout innings allowing two hits and one walk with one strikeout. Sullivan led the Cowboys with two hits, three RBI and one run.
ULM will return to action this weekend as it travels to Miami, Fla., for a three-game conference series at FIU. First pitch Friday is slated for 5 p.m., followed by a 3 p.m. start Saturday and a Noon start Sunday.
