Box Score JONESBORO, Ark. – The ULM tennis team closed out its regular season with a 6-1 victory over conference foe Arkansas State on Saturday at the ASU Tennis Complex. The Warhawks (14-3) will enter next week's Sun Belt Tournament riding a four-match winning streak.
ULM opened the contest by winning all three doubles matches to take a 1-0 advantage. Junior Medy Blankvoort and freshman Justyna Krol improved to 13-1 on the season with an 8-5 win over Biljana Miloshevska and Sofia Krsmanovic at the No. 2 position. Sophomore Sophie Rufyikiri and freshman Iris Van Leeuwen clinched the match with an 8-5 decision against Tamara Slijepcevic and Jess Heeps-Eriksen.
Freshman Petra Horakova and sophomore Silvia Tumova also won, 8-6, over ASU's Ioana Teu and Janie Nowland at the No. 1 position in the closest of the three doubles matches.
Horakova knocked off ASU's Chiara Stefanov, 6-2, 6-0, at the No. 6 position for her fourth straight singles victory, while Blankvoort improved to 15-2 on the season with an easy 6-1, 6-2 victory over Nowland at the No. 2 position to give the Warhawks a 3-0 advantage.
Van Leeuwen took care of Heeps-Eriksen at the No. 5 position with a 6-1, 6-2 win to clinch the match. Krol followed with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Teu at the No. 4 position and Tumova sealed a 7-5, 6-2 victory over Miloshevska at the No. 3 position.
The Warhawks only loss of the match came at the No. 1 position where Slijepcevic rallied for a 6-7, 6-3, 10-5 win over Rufyikiri.
ULM will find out its seed for the upcoming Sun Belt Conference Championships when the new ITA rankings are released on Tuesday. The SBC Championships take place April 18-21 in Lafayette, La.
