MONROE, La. -- After ULM trimmed the deficit to two runs on a solo blast by Brandon Alexander in the sixth, Arkansas State responded with a two-run homer in the top of the seventh to claim a 6-2 victory Saturday night at Warhawk Field.
ULM's (14-25, 4-13) Alexander sent a 0-1 offering over the wall in right field as his trot around the bases closed the gap to two runs (4-2) with two outs in the bottom of the sixth inning.
The Red Wolves (22-17, 8-9) concluded the scoring in the seventh as Logan Uxa delivered a two-run homer to right to give Arkansas State the 6-2 win.
ULM starter Carey Taylor (1-4) was tagged with the loss after allowing four runs on five hits and four walks. During his 3.2 innings of work, Taylor struck out a pair. The Warhawks received a solid effort from Andrew Richardson, the team's third and final pitcher of the night. Richardson tossed three shutout innings and allowed two hits and one walk while striking out four.
Alexander paced the Warhawk offense as he tallied two hits, two RBI and one run Saturday night.
Arkansas State's Bradley Wallace (4-1) earned the win as he scattered two hits and two runs during seven innings of work. The right-hander walked three and struck out five in a winning effort. Dustin Jones had three hits, two RBI and one run in the win.
ULM got things started in the first as Alexander's slow roller up the middle was fielded by second baseman Alex Potts but the throw to first was late. The late throw aided Dalton Herrington as he never stopped running and was able to score all the way from second to give ULM the early 1-0 lead.
Arkansas State evened the contest at one with a single run in the third. Collin Massanelli drove home Jones with a RBI double down the right field line to even the score at 1-1.
The Red Wolves took its first lead of the game with three runs in the fourth. Jones highlighted the inning with a two-RBI double to left center before being tagged out at third trying to record a triple.
ULM plated its final run of the game in the sixth, while Arkansas State set the final tally at 6-2 with two in the seventh.
The weekend series wraps up tomorrow with first pitch slated for 1 p.m.
