Wilson?s Shutout Leads ULM Past Jackson State

Softball

JACKSON, Miss. -- ULM snapped a seven-game skid with its 3-0 win at Jackson State Tuesday behind a five-hit, complete game  shutout from Haylie Wilson.

The Warhawks (18-27) drew first blood and snapped an 11-inning scoreless streak when Alexis Cacioppo reached on an error in the top of the first with two down. On the play, Courtney Dutreix scored from second.

It was all ULM would needed as Wilson was dominant, spreading out five hits in seven innings of work.  She fanned two and walked two Lady Tigers (23-27) in the effort. The Warhawks added two key insurance runs in the top of the seventh. The first run came thanks to heads-up base running after a botched pick-off attempt from the Jackson State catcher.

Offensively, Mackenzie Miller led the way with a pair of hits, including the lone RBI of the contest--a single in the top of the seventh.

Jackson State's only real threats to score in the bottom of the sixth when they had a runner on third with two down.

The Warhawk defense was also spectacular, highlighted by three double plays--a season high.  Miller made two solid catches in center as well.

ULM makes a quick turnaround when it hosts Central Arkansas tomorrow at 5 p.m. in the final non-conference tilt of the year.
