ULM Drops Midweek Tilt to Mississippi Valley State

Baseball

MONROE, La. -- Visiting Mississippi Valley State scored six runs in the top of the eighth inning en route to an 11-6 victory over ULM Wednesday night at Warhawk Field.

With the game tied at five-all, the Delta Devils (5-36) tallied six runs in the eighth to take an 11-5 advantage.  Five of the six runs scored in the inning came with two outs including a pair of two-RBI singles through the left side.

ULM (16-26) tacked on its final run in the home half of the eighth as Kodie Tidwell drove home Dalton Herrington to set the final tally at 11-6 in favor of Mississippi Valley State.

Warhawk reliever Chad Miller tossed 6.2 strong innings, but allowed what proved to be the game winning run (the only run he allowed) to fall to 0-1 on the season.  Miller scattered five hits and two walks while striking out two during his 103 pitch performance.

Tidwell paced the Warhawk offense in the final non-conference home game of the season with three hits and three RBI.

Delta Devil reliever David Lostra (3-6) earned the win after surrendering two runs (one earned) on four hits and two walks with two strikeouts in six innings of work.  Joseph Germaine tallied two hits, four RBI and one run to lead Mississippi Valley State.

Mississippi Valley State got things going early as they plated five runs in the top of the first inning, all off of ULM starter Christo Jones.  Jones made quick work of the first two batters he faced, but then Jones surrendered back-to-back hits that started the big inning for the visitors.  The Delta Devils tallied a pair of two-RBI singles to highlight a five-run first as they took the early lead.

ULM quickly responded as the Warhawks plated four runs in the home half of the first inning.  Justin Stawychny highlighted the inning with a two-RBI single up the middle.

In the sixth, the Warhawks evened the game at 5-5 as Tidwell drove in Herrington with a RBI single up the middle.

The two teams each scored in the eighth inning to conclude the scoring in Wednesday's contest.

The Warhawks will return to action this weekend as they close out a nine-game homestand with a three-game series against Sun Belt Conference foe South Alabama.
