DENTON, Texas -- The ULM softball team was swept by North Texas at Lovelace Stadium in the Warhawks' final road doubleheader of the season. The Mean Green (24-22, 11-9 Sun Belt) dealt a five inning no-hitter and took the opener 8-0 then erased a six-run deficit to win 8-7 in the finale.
Janel Salanoa led ULM (19-29, 3-16 Sun Belt) with a pair of singles and four RBI.
GAME ONE -- North Texas 8, ULM 0 (5 inn.)
ULM fell victim to a no-hitter in the series opener at North Texas by an 8-0 score in five innings.
North Texas put together a big inning in the home half of the first and never looked back as the Mean Green plated four runs in the opening frame.
Danielle Hoff and Taylor Schoblocher both drove in runs on singles then Jackie Miller capped the inning with a two-run double.
The Mean Green added a run in the fourth on Hoff's second RBI single of the day.
North Texas right fielder Lesley Hirsch tripled to deep left center with two down in the bottom of the fifth that drove in two runs to make it 7-0. One batter later, Brook Foster ended the game with a RBI single to left.
Ashley Kirk struck out six and walked only two in the no-hit effort.
GAME TWO - North Texas 8, ULM 7
Saturday's night cap began with a complete role reversal. ULM's bats exploded for four runs in the top of the first. Salanoa had a two-run single. Cayla Unverzagt also chipped in an RBI single to make it 4-0.
ULM added two more runs in the top of the second on Salanoa's second two-run single of the day and led 6-0.
North Texas responded with a three-run home half of the second. Paige Kissling doubled home a run then two more came across after Foster's RBI single and a ULM error that cut the Warhawk lead in half.
Karly Williams added a two-out solo blast to straight-away center to cut the lead to 6-4.
The Mean Green added back-to-back solo homers with two out in the bottom of the fifth to knot things up at six.
Courtney Dutreix led off the sixth inning with a walk then eventually scored from third on a wild pitch with two down to break the tie and put ULM up 7-6.
The lead, however, would be short-lived.
In the Mean Green sixth, Jordan Terry hit an RBI double to left center. The knock tied the game at seven apiece. Two batters later, Schoblocher then hit a single to right center to give North Texas an 8-7 lead.
ULM went quietly in the top of the seventh.
The Warhawks conclude the series with North Texas tomorrow at 11 a.m.
