FRISCO, Texas -- ULM and Southland Hall of Fame member Sarah Dawson was named the Southland Conference's all-time pitcher, the league announced Thursday as part of its 50th anniversary season celebration.
“The Southland Conference has a storied softball history, and our collective success is a big part of the Conference's 50th anniversary celebration,” league commissioner Tom Burnett said. “All members, past and present, have played a big role in our competitive and academic achievements.”
In her ULM career, Dawson was a four-time all-Southland choice from 1994-97, and was the 1994 and 1997 Player of the Year, and earned 1996 and 1997 all-Tournament honors. She is the Southland and ULM's all-time wins leader in a season (45) and career (120), and also holds the league's strikeout marks in a season (445) and career (1,280). The also set league standards for games pitched (187) and completed (151).
She led the Warhawks to their only NCAA tournament appearance in 1997.
Dawson was one of eight Warhawks named to the league's 50th Anniversary All-Time Roster. The others are: Brenda Dawson (2B, 1989-92), Millie George (SS, 1983-85), Casey Goodman (C, 2000-03), Jackie Harris (OF, 1991-93), Allison Nevils (2B, 1983-86), Wilanne Stewart (P, 1983-86) and Lori Tande (SS, 1999-02).
