Wine Signs Free Agent Deal with Blue Jays

Baseball

MONROE, La. -- Despite not being drafted in the 2013 MLB First-Year Player Draft, former Warhawk pitcher Cale Wine will extend his playing career as he agreed to a free agent deal with the Toronto Blue Jays.  Wine's signing with Toronto marks the second straight season a Warhawk signed with the Blue Jays as Wil Browning signed with the professional club in 2012.

Wine led the Warhawks with six wins in 2013 and the senior, right-hander started 15 games which led the Sun Belt.  He had four complete game efforts and at the end of the regular season, his 91.0 innings pitched ranked fourth in the conference.

He had seven quality starts during his final season in a Warhawk uniform and Wine surrendered just one earned run over his first three outings of the season (21.2 IP).  Of his six wins, four came in conference play (Troy [CG], at FIU, at Western Kentucky and at Middle Tennessee).
