Preseason Honors Continue to Roll in for Browning

Football

FORT WORTH, Texas -- ULM quarterback Kolton Browning was named as one of 34 quarterbacks as the Davey O'Brien National Quarterback Award Watch List was announced today.

So far during the preseason, Browning has been named the Sun Belt Conference's preseason Offensive Player of the Year, while earning a spot on the conference's preseason all-conference team.  He also has been named to the Maxwell Award and CFPA Offensive Awards preseason watch lists.

Browning, a native of Mabank, Texas, garnered second-team All-SBC and All-Louisiana honors in 2012 after a strong season. He started 12 games and finished with 3,049 passing yards, completing 273-of-428 attempts. Both the yards and completions set school records. Browning etched a spot on the Maxwell Award Watch List during the mid-point of the season.

He tied the single-season program record with 29 touchdown passes and also led the team in rushing attempts (146), yards (488) and touchdowns (seven). Additionally, Browning led the conference in total offense (294.8 ypg), touchdown passes and finished third in passing yards; his total offense clip ranked 21st in the nation.

Browning finished the 2012 campaign at the top of the career touchdown passing chart with 60 and ranks second in career passing yards (8,084), career passing attempts (1,225), and career pass completions (751).

Appearing on the Watch List is not a requirement for a player to win the Davey O'Brien Award. Quarterbacks from all 125 NCAA Division I Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) schools are eligible for the award until the field is narrowed to 16 semifinalists on Monday, Nov. 4. The Foundation and the Selection Committee will announce three finalists on Monday, Nov. 25. The 2013 Davey O'Brien Winner will be announced on The Home Depot College Football Awards on Thursday, Dec. 12.

The 37th Annual Davey O'Brien Awards Dinner will be held Feb. 17, 2014 in Fort Worth, Texas.
