Warhawks Fall to No. 25 LSU

BATON ROUGE, La. – The ULM soccer program dropped a 6-0 decision to No. 25 LSU on Tuesday at the LSU Soccer Stadium.

ULM (1-2) registered six shots in the game including three from Sun Belt Preseason All-Conference selection Karlea Fehr, one of which was on goal. Kyla Kalinski, Haley Rodriguez and Whitney Tuckfield also fired shots.

In net, Holly Mallinson and Katherine Werther each logged 45 minutes. Mallinson made one save, while Werther blocked six including a couple goal-savers.

“This game was definitely different from the other games we played. LSU kicked a lot harder and ran a lot faster,” said Werther. “We had to watch everyone on the field and keep a close eye on what they're doing.”

The Tigers (2-0) scored goals from Jodi Calloway, Lexi Gibbs and two from Alex Arlitt and Fernanda Pina. LSU scored all six goals within the first 49 minutes, but then the teams played even the rest of the way.

“We started to high-pressure and get more aggressive. We moved the ball faster and started getting it to the outsides so we can step to it,” said sophomore Maddy Chapman. “We're going to now start with a more aggressive approach from the beginning. We will start stepping in faster, harder, getting our tackles in and winning a lot of balls.”

LSU's third goal was a controversial one as the side linesman's flag was raised after a very rough play by an LSU attacker and a potential offside call. The referee kept her whistle down and counted the score.

ULM will return home on Friday for a 5:00 p.m. kickoff against Nicholls State. Follow the ULM soccer team on twitter, @ULM_Soccer, for live in-game updates.
