MONROE, La. – The ULM soccer team extended its unbeaten streak to three games on Friday in a 0-0 tie against Southeastern Louisiana at the ULM Soccer Complex.
“This was a fantastic game today. We came out a little slow but we looked a lot better in the second half. We were the better team after halftime and it was one of our best performances this season,” said ULM head coach Roberto Mazza. “We just have to continue connecting passes, opening the field, putting balls in the box and finishing our chances. Overall I am very pleased.”
Freshman goalkeeper Holly Mallinson made eight saves in net for ULM (3-4-1) to keep the game scoreless. She played the entire 110 minutes against the Lions (4-1-1).
“I felt pretty good. The warm-up went really well and I think everyone was really into the game and wanted to win. That's what made my intensity really go up,” said Mallinson. “We are going to keep working hard and will try to string passes together. We will keep passing it around, which we did a lot better today and hopefully go out there and get a win on Sunday.”
ULM held a 7-2 edge in corner kicks. Freshman Amanda Borstelmann led the team with a pair of shots on target. Freshmen Jenna Floyd, Jenna Pillon and Haley Rodriguez, and sophomore Karlea Fehr also put shots on net.
The Warhawks, who started nine freshmen for the fifth consecutive game, held a 4-2 advantage in shots in the overtime periods. Floyd, freshman Cameron Stoker and junior Cerene Arsenault played the full 110 minutes.
The unbeaten streak is the longest the program has had since 2008 when the team opened the season with three consecutive wins. ULM's longest unbeaten streak in school history is five games set in both 2004 and 2005.
Southeastern La. entered the contest having outscored its opponents 21-3 on the season. Kelsey Salcido led the team with three shots on goal, while Casey Peacock fired six shots total.
The Warhawks moved to 2-0-1 on the home stand with victories over Arkansas-Pine Bluff and Northwestern State. They will wrap-up the home swing on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. when it hosts Southern.
