ULM Head Coach Todd Berry
Opening statement:
“Just a pathetic performance, wasn't it? I've done this for 31 years. That's about the worst performance I think I've ever been around. I've been around some bad teams before but this one is supposed to be a good team. Didn't make plays, we didn't show up, we didn't do anything right. We couldn't block, couldn't tackle, couldn't kick, nothing. It's difficult, obviously, because Tulane is not very good and we're worse.”
On this season being a regression despite the experience and maturity of the team:
“We had a terrible practice on Tuesday, terrible. Worst since I've been here. Told them afterwards, if you practice like that again you're going to lose on Saturday. They picked it back up the next day but the reality of it is right now, there's just not a lot of energy, not a lot of discipline. All of the guys that made plays last year, we can't buy a play; hadn't been able to all year. Kept thinking we'd come around a little bit and make some plays but can't make a play right now, can't make a catch, can't make a tackle, can't make a block. So, that's the question isn't it, that's the enigma, where did my football team go? Because I don't know where they're at right now.”
On where the team dropped off:
“Probably the second half at Oklahoma when all of a sudden they recognized they weren't going to beat a top 25 team and all of a sudden there was a few things that happened during that time frame. Everybody expected that it was just going to go like last year, there was going to be some duplication. You have to earn everything in this life. From a mental standpoint, tonight we just couldn't make any plays. At Wake Forest we had a lot of mental things that really bothered me. We didn't play well in that game because there were mental mistakes that we go over. Tonight we just couldn't make any plays.”
Tulane Head Coach Curtis Johnson
Opening Statement:
I'm obviously very pleased. Rob Kelley played excellent. Orleans Darkwa had 116 yards and a touchdown. Robert [Kelley] averaged 4.3 yards per carry. Our running game did a great job today. Defensively, I thought they played outstanding. They were terrific. Jordan Batiste had eight tackles and an interception. It was an outstanding effort.
On the game plan:
We talked about it all week. They gave me the plan, I said, 'okay'. I was a little skeptical but everyone else was on board with the offense and defensive plan. Offensively, we ran the ball very, very well. Lionel Washington and Jon Sumrall said we could turn them over if we can hit this quarterback, and that's what they did. It was a great plan.
On the running game:
That's how we have to win. We can run the ball and if we can keep these games close, we can be able to throw the ball again and throw it well. It was a good game for us. We played well."
On Tulane's road trip:
It's a great feeling. We split this road trip. We got two wins on the road and it's just fantastic.
