MONROE, La. – Senior guard
Amos Olatayo will miss the rest of the season after an ACL injury that occurred in the second half against WKU last Thursday, the program announced.
Olatayo was ULM's second leading scorer this season with 13.2 points per game and was also second on the team in rebounds with 5.3 per contest. He tallied 11 double-figure scoring games including three 20-plus games and one 30-point performance.
“Amos has been a valuable member of our program's improvement both on and off the court. This injury is unfortunate for him and our team but we are proud of his efforts over the last two seasons. He will graduate this May with a grade point average over 3.0 and he has a bright future ahead of him,” said ULM head coach
Keith Richard.
Olatayo poured in 30 points in ULM's 84-80 overtime victory over Northwestern State on Nov. 21. He drained 11-of-13 field goals as 27 of his points came after halftime. He also pulled down nine rebounds in the contest.
It was his second career 30-point game as he also did it against FIU as a junior. Olatayo is the only ULM student-athlete to record 30 points in a single game over the last three seasons.
The Houston, Texas native started league-play strong this year as he notched 16 points, six rebounds and a career-high five blocks in the Sun Belt Conference opener against UL-Lafayette. Olatayo played a career-high 45 minutes and guided the Warhawks to a 103-98 double overtime victory.
In ULM's next game at UT-Arlington, he tallied a 20 point, eight rebound performance and went 7-for-14 from the field. He also etched 22 points in ULM's home opener against Samford.
Last season, Olatayo led the team and ranked fourth in the SBC with 15.8 points per game. He was also top-15 in the league with 5.6 rebounds per game and ranked second on the team in blocks (9) and steals (33). He reached double-figures in points in all of ULM's final eight games.
In his career, Olatayo posted 28 double-figure scoring games, six 20-plus scoring games, two 30-point games and a double-digit rebounding game. He racked up 549 career points, 207 rebounds, 46 steals, 31 assists, 17 blocks and hit 44 three-pointers.
