MONROE, La. -- ULM used a late first half run to climb back into Saturday's game, but a strong second half by UL-Lafayette proved to be the difference as the Ragin' Cajuns claimed a 68-49 win inside Fant-Ewing Coliseum.
UL-Lafayette (8-4, 1-0) used a early second half surge to take a 38-30 lead with 15:56 to play in the contest. The Ragin' Cajuns used a 19-2 run midway through the half to take a 61-40 lead with 8:03 to play in the first league game of the season for both teams.
After shooting just 28.2% in the first 20 minutes, UL-Lafayette shot 48.3% in the second 20 minutes. Meanwhile, ULM (4-9, 0-1) shot 34.5% and 29.2%, respectively.
ULM's Jasmine Shaw opened the scoring Saturday as she connected on a jumper to give the Warhawks an early 2-0 lead. UL-Lafayette was able to take a five point lead (9-4) thanks to a 9-2 spurt over a span of 4:51.
The Ragin' Cajuns moved ahead by eight and held a 17-9 lead with 9:41 to play, but the Warhawks were able to even the contest at 23-all as they used a 14-6 run to tie the game with 4:01 remaining in the first half.
UL-Lafayette was able to take a 30-28 into the locker room at the break as it scored seven of the final 12 points of the half.
ULM will hit the road for a Wednesday night contest at Sun Belt Conference newcomer UT Arlington.
