MONROE, La. – An evenly played game just didn't end in favor of the ULM soccer program as it dropped a 1-0 decision to Arkansas State on Friday on pink day at the ULM Soccer Complex.
ULM (7-7-1, 1-4 SBC) controlled the tempo after halftime and outshot ASU (4-10, 1-4 SBC) 15-12 for the game, including a 10-6 mark in the second half but just couldn't put one in. The Warhawks also held a big 7-1 advantage in corner kicks.
The Red Wolves knocked in the game's only tally in the 31st minute. Mykel Ward sent in a cross that Jena Kelley headed into the lower left corner from the left.
Junior Karlea Fehr led the ULM offense with six shots, including four on net. She fired one late in the game that hit the cross bar from about 20 yards out. Junior Mariah Mitchell recorded three shots, while sophomores Jenna Pillon and Antonia Land registered two apiece.
Land played all 90 minutes after moving up from center-back to midfield at halftime. Sophomores Whitney Tuckfield and Mary Ashton Lembo also played the whole way for the Warhawks.
In net, Katherine Werther (6-4) earned the nod and made seven saves. ASU's Amanda Lee (2-4) picked up the win after making eight stops.
ULM used eight student-athletes off the bench including sophomore Cameron Stoker who played 56 minutes after missing last Sunday's game at Troy.
The Warhawks will be back in action on Sunday for their final home game of the season at 1:00 p.m. against UALR. Cerene Arsenault will be honored before the game on Senior Day.
