LAFAYETTE, La. – In the final game of the 2014 season, sophomore Antonia Land and junior Kelley O'Dwyer scored, but it wasn't enough as the ULM soccer program fell 4-2 to UL-Lafayette on Sunday at the Cajuns Soccer Complex.
Land got the Warhawks (8-10-1, 2-7 SBC) on the board in the 78th minute which cut the deficit to 3-1. She drilled a high shot over the goalkeepers head for her fifth score of the season.
O'Dwyer scored the final tally of the game in the 86th minute. She found the right side of the net from inside the six-yard box for her fifth goal of the year.
The Ragin' Cajuns (9-7-2, 4-4-1 SBC) garnered a pair of goals from Madison Duncan and one from Elizabeth Manuel and Kimberly Grasso. They led 1-0 at halftime after taking the lead in the sixth minute.
ULM did not go down easy and fired 11 shots in the contest, including seven on target. Land and sophomore Jenna Pillon took three apiece, while O'Dwyer and junior Karlea Fehr each registered a pair. Fehr broke the ULM single-season shots record in the game with 78.
Katherine Werther (7-7-1) took the loss after making seven saves in 74:27. Freshman goalkeeper Samantha Moreno made her first conference appearance of the year and blocked a pair of shots.
Senior Cerene Arsenault played the full 90 minutes in her final career game at center-back. She was the only ULM student-athlete to start all 19 games on the season. Sophomores Cameron Stoker and Whitney Tuckfield also played 90 minutes at defense.
ULM ended the season two wins better than its 2013 win total and also increased its conference win tally. The Warhawks finished one spot ahead of where they were predicted in the SBC Preseason Poll.
