MONROE, La. – Coming off a big 74-65 victory over UAB in the season opener, the ULM men's basketball program will play its 2014-15 home opener against Champion Baptist at 7:00 p.m. on Monday at Fant-Ewing Coliseum.
The Warhawks (1-0) recorded four double-figure scorers in the victory over the Blazers. Senior Tylor Ongwae and junior Justin Roberson netted 18 points apiece, while sophomore Nick Coppola registered 14 and junior Majok Deng 13.
ULM started down 3-0 in the contest, but after scoring the next two baskets it never trailed again. The Warhawks led by as many as 15 points in the second half and out-rebounded UAB, 40-35.
It was the first opening night victory for ULM since Nov. 14, 2008 when it defeated Morehead State, 56-54 and the first opening night road win since Nov. 23, 1999 when it won at Samford, 67-60. Additionally, it was the largest opening night road victory since Dec. 1, 1979 when it beat Nicholls State, 79-69.
Champion Baptist is a member of the Association of Christian College Athletics (ACCA). In its short eight year career, CBC has made eight ACCA National Tournament appearances. It has won three National Championships in 2007, 2009, and 2010.
