Nacogdoches, Texas – Senior Sharnice Brooks had a team-high 19 points, but it was not enough as the ULM women's basketball team dropped an 82-54 decision to Stephen F. Austin in WRJ Coliseum on Friday night.
The Warhawks (1-1) limited the Ladyjacks (2-1) to less than 50 percent from the field through the game and just 11 percent from behind the arc in the second half.
Freshman Daja Chase had a career-night as she scored 11 points, grabbed three rebounds and had two assists and two steals, while junior Aundrea Davis added seven points with three assists, three rebounds and a steal.
SFA's Taylor Ross had 23 points, eight assists, two steals and a rebound on the night.
After the Ladyjacks jumped out to an early 8-0 lead, Freshman Chelsea Tieuel's layup opened the scoring for the Warhawks.
ULM cut into the lead soon after Tieuel's layup as Brooks was fouled on a field goal and sank the free-throw.
SFA stretched the lead out to seven, but Ashley Aune's three-pointer left the score at 18-14 with 10:42 left in the half. Chase then added another layup, leaving the Ladyjacks clinging to a two-point lead.
Two field goals by Alayshia Hunter tied the score at 20-20, but SFA's Victoria Pena hit a three-pointer to begin another run by the Ladyjacks.
The Warhawks fought hard, but SFA continued to stretch the lead over the second half.
ULM takes the court again on Tuesday as they travel to Starkville, Mississippi to take on Mississippi State at 7:00 p.m. in Humphrey Coliseum.
