AUBURN, Ala. -- The ULM softball program (3-2) defeated Tennessee Tech (0-5) by a 7-0 tally at Auburn's Jane B. Moore Field Sunday afternoon to conclude play in the Plainsman Invitational.
Senior pitcher Samantha Hamby was stellar through seven innings, holding the Golden Eagles to just two hits and improved to 2-1 on the year.
The Warhawks bats worked throughout the game as well, as they scattered 10 hits in the contest. Molly Mackey, Faith Bohack and Vanessa Garcia had two hits apiece to pace the offense.
ULM grabbed the lead in the top of the third on a sacrifice fly from junior infielder Miyuki Navarrete to score freshman outfielder Sidney Coy, who singled to lead off the frame and advanced to third after a sacrifice bunt and a wild pitch.
Two innings later, ULM scratched another run across in the top of the fifth after freshman designated player Vanessa Garcia singled and worked her way to third. Navarrete's second RBI of the contest, a fielder's choice, drove Garcia in.
Sophomore infielder Faith Bohack sent a two-out single then stole second in the fifth. Garcia drove in Bohack with an RBI double into deep right center. Freshman catcher Hollie Letourneau, who drew a two-out walk, later scored the inning's second run on a wild pitch to give ULM a 4-0 lead.
ULM added some insurance in the seventh, plating three runs all with two outs. Mackenzie Miller scored on a Tennessee Tech error. Later, Bohack drove in a pair of runs on a single to straightaway center to put the Warhawks up 7-0.
The Warhawks return to action Friday at 3:15 PM when they host Southeast Missouri State as part of the Mardi Gras Classic.
