MONROE, La. -- The ULM softball program needed only five innings to earn a 19-0 victory over Grambling State to cap the 2014 Mardi Gras Classic Sunday.
With the win, the Warhawks (7-3) earned the Mardi Gras Classic championship.
The Warhawks got on the board immediately in the bottom of the first on Alexis Cacippo's RBI double. From then on, ULM never looked back.
Jessica Colliver (1-1) limited Grambling to just one hit in the shutout effort.
ULM plated seven runs in the bottom of the second with three coming off Faith Bohack's deep home run just inside the left field foul pole.
Amye Barre recorded her first career home run in the bottom of the third, a three-run blast to left-center. It was also the first mult-RBI and multi-hit game for the sophomore catcher.
ULM added eight more runs in the bottom of the fourth with half of the tallies coming on two-run hits by Robbie Dailey (a double) and Rochelle Roberts.
ULM returns to action Friday when they open the innaugural Warhawk Classic against Louisiana Tech. First pitch is slated for 5:30 PM.
