ULM, Southeastern Louisiana Set for First Meeting Since 2006

MONROE, La. -- After a pair of hard luck losses at No. 24 Ole Miss, the ULM baseball team returns home to Warhawk Field to kickoff a three-game weekend series against Southeastern Louisiana. All three games will air on KMLB 540 AM with Bruce Hanks on the call.

First Pitch
• After playing five games away from Warhawk Field, the Warhawks return to Monroe to kickoff a four-game homestand as they welcome Southeastern Louisiana to Monroe for a three-game series... The Warhawks will conclude the homestand with a Mar. 5 matchup against Michigan State.
• ULM leads the all-time series over Southeastern Louisiana, 65-52-1, but it will be the first meeting between the two squads since the 2006 campaign (ULM's last season in the Southland Conference).
• ULM is coming off of a heartbreaking midweek in which #24 Ole Miss rallied for a pair of walk-off wins at Swayze Field in Oxford, Miss.
• In game one of the midweek series, ULM led 4-3 heading to the bottom of the ninth before the Rebels scored a pair of runs to claim a 5-4 win... A night later, Ole Miss again rallied for a one-run win as it scored once in the eighth and ninth innings to defeat ULM, 4-3.
• In game two of the midweek series, Vincent Dellocono recorded his first career hit, a two-out RBI double down the left field line to cap a three-run seventh inning for the Warhawks.
Dalton Herrington had the big hit for the Warhawks in game one of the series at Ole Miss... In the top half of the second inning, Herrington doubled off of the base of the wall in right center and recorded three RBI with his two-bagger... Herrington's big hit capped a four-run second for the Warhawks.
• The trek to Oxford, Miss., marked the first games outside of the state of Louisiana for the Warhawks this season... ULM has played four games at home and played three games in Thibodaux, La., on Feb 20-22.
• The Warhawks posted a 2-1 record at the Carmel Inn Showdown in Thibodaux, La., over the weekend... ULM picked up a pair of wins over Western Illinois, but fell to host-Nicholls State... The final game of the event between ULM and Southern Illinois was canceled due to rain and the potential impact on travel plans for the Salukis.
• In the first-ever meeting between ULM and Western Illinois, the Warhawks pounded out a season-high 14 hits en route to a 6-2 win on Feb. 20... Jacob Stockton led the way with a 4-for-5 effort with two doubles and three runs scored... Chad Miller carried a no-no into the fifth and earned his first win of the season... Carey Taylor closed out the game and earned his first save of 2014.

Southeastern Louisiana enters the weekend on a four-game winning streak and a 6-2 record overall... In their last game, the Lions defeated Grambling State, 13-0 to close out a five-game homestand.

Jameson Fisher leads Southeastern Louisiana in both batting average (.452) and stolen bases (six)... Brett Hoffman, meanwhile, is the leader in doubles (five) and RBI (11).

The three-man weekend rotation that the Lions are expected to send to the hill all have earned run average of less than 1.00... Friday starter Andro Cutura is 1-0 with a 0.64 ERA, while Saturday starter Tate Scioneaux is 2-0 with a 0.75 ERA... Kyle Keller, projected to start Sunday's game, is 1-0 with a 0.82 ERA... The three right handers have 28 strikeouts and just six walks (4.67-to-1 strikeout-to-walk ratio).

The Lions have two other Sun Belt schools on the slate for 2014... Southeastern Louisiana will play a home-and-home with both ULL (Lafayette, Mar. 5; Hammond, Apr. 29) and South Alabama (Hammond, Apr. 1; Mobile, Apr. 15).

Friday's meeting between ULM and Southeastern Louisiana will be the 119th meeting all-time between the two former Southland Conference members... ULM leads the all-time series, 65-52-1, and it will be the first meeting between the two programs since the 2006 season, the Warhawks' last season in the SLC... ULM claimed that series, two games to one (W, 12-2, Apr. 14; W, 5-1, Apr. 15 [G1]; L, 4-8, Apr. 15 [G2]).

OXFORD, Miss. (Feb. 26, 2014) -- Ole Miss again thwarted a ULM upset as they scored one run in the eighth and ninth inning to claim a 4-3 win Wednesday at Swayze Field.

Carey Taylor (0-1) was tagged with the loss after allowing two runs on five hits in 4.1 innings of relief. Cheyne Bickel tossed 2.1 innings of shutout baseball to improve to 1-1.

Ole Miss, like it did on Tuesday, scored the first run of the contest. Braxton Lee led off the inning by drawing a walk and moved 90 feet from home as he stole second and moved to third on a throwing error by Warhawk catcher Chet Simoneaux. Lee was able to cross home plate on a RBI groundout by Auston Bousfield.

The Rebels pushed their lead to 2-0 with a single run in the home half of the fourth. With one out in the frame, Colby Bortles singled to third and later moved to second on a passed ball. After a walk by Brantley Bell, Braxton Lee doubled to the gap in left center allowing Bortles to score the second Ole Miss run.

ULM finally broke through with its first hit of the game as Chet Simoneaux led off the top of the seventh with a single to center off of reliever Evan Anderson. Dalton Herrington followed and reached base via a walk to give ULM two on with no outs. Justin Stawychny laid down a sacrifice bunt and reached on a throwing error by third baseman Brantley Bell. Bell's throwing error allowed Stawychny to move to second, Herrington advanced to third and Simoneaux scored.

The Warhawks were able to even the game at 2-2 as Herrington raced home on a wild pitch by Anderson. Later in the inning, with Stawychny standing at third and two outs, Vincent Dellocono recorded his first career hit, a RBI double down the left field line. Dellocono's RBI double allowed Stawychny to score and give the Warhawks a 3-2 lead.

Ole Miss tied the game with one run in the bottom of the eighth inning. With runners at second and third and one away, Bortles grounded out to short stop but picked up a RBI as Cameron Dishon scored to even the game at 3-3.

In the bottom of the ninth, the Rebels led off with a hit by Bell and he was able to move to third on a passed ball and sac bunt. After the Warhawks intentionally loaded the bases and Tyler Bray entered the game on the hill, Will Allen drove in the game-winning run to lift Ole Miss to the win.
