ULM Outlasts Texas State, 3-2

Softball

SAN MARCOS, Texas -- The ULM softball program edged Texas State 3-2 Sunday afternoon to cap the Sun Belt's opening series.

Faith Bohack was 2-for-3 with two RBI to help the Warhawks' offensive efforts while ULM (15-10, 1-2 Sun Belt) pitchers Haylie Wilson and Jessica Colliver held the Bobcats (17-11, 2-1 Sun Belt) to two runs on three hits.

The Warhawks jumped on the board immediately by plating three in the top of the first.

Miyuki Navarrete opened the game with a single. She would later steal second.  Amye Barre later drew a two-out walk to keep the inning alive.   That set the table for Bohack, who delivered a two-run double into left center to score both Navarrete and Barre. One batter later, Rochelle Roberts slapped a single into shallow center to drive in Barre.

The score remained 3-0 in favor of ULM until the bottom of the fifth, when Kendall Wiley smashed a two-run double to draw Texas State within a run.

Colliver came on in relief of starter Wilson and shut down the Bobcats, retiring seven straight to preserve the win.

Wilson earned her first victory of the year, while Colliver was credited for the first save of the year for any ULM hurler.

The Warhawks remain on the road for a Mar. 29-30 series at South Alabama. The series opens at 1 p.m. on the 29th.
