MONROE, La. -- ULM picked up a pair of wins Saturday as it took the series from UALR and improved its overall record to 10-17 and 3-5 in league play.
The Warhawks picked up a 6-4 win in the resumption game from Friday night and followed that up with an 11-10 victory over the Trojans (11-12, 1-7) in extra innings to complete the unofficial doubleheader sweep.
ULM 6, UALR 4 (Resumption Game from Friday)
ULM struck for the first runs of the game as the Warhawks plated a pair in the bottom of the first inning. Anthony Herrera led off with a walk and Josh Faciane gave the Warhawks two on with no outs after he was hit by a pitch. Later in the frame, Jacob Stockton delivered a RBI single to right field as Herrera came in to score. Kodie Tidwell capped the inning with a sac fly to left that plated Faciane.
The Warhawks pushed the lead to 4-0 with two runs in the home half of the third. With runners on the corners and one out, Keelin Rasch picked up a RBI as Dalton Herrington scored on Rasch's fielder's choice. Faciane reached second thanks to a fielding error at shortstop and moved to third as the ball rolled into the outfield. Faciane was able to race home when UALR was unable to turn a double play as Stockton reached on a fielder's choice.
UALR responded in the top half of the fourth as the Trojans evened the contest with a quartet of runs in the frame. Bryson Thionnet led off the inning with a homer over the wall in left field for the first Trojan run of the game. Ben Crumpton closed the gap to two runs (4-2) as he scored on a wild pitch before Tanner Rockwell and Justin Steelmon tallied back-to-back RBI hits to even the game.
ULM responded as it scored multiple runs for the third time in the first four innings. With the bases loaded and two outs in the bottom of the fourth, Faciane came through for the Warhawks as he drove in a pair with his single to center field.
The two teams traded zeros on the scoreboard over the next three innings as ULM maintained its 6-4 lead heading into the eighth. After Warhawk reliever Alex Dumaine struckout Crumpton, the umpiring crew sent the teams off of the field at 8:40 p.m. due to lightning. A few minutes later the tarp was on the field and the game was officially halted until Saturday afternoon.
After the official delay of 19 hours and 49 minutes concluded, the two teams returned to action and it took just 24 minutes to conclude the contest as neither team pushed across a run and ULM earned the 6-4 win.
ULM reliever Josh Leone (2-3) earned the win as he surrendered just one earned run in 2.2 innings of work. The redshirt-freshman allowed three hits and one walk with four punchouts in the win. Tyler Bray closed out the game, recording the final three outs of the game as he entered in the ninth and struckout two to earn his third save of the season.
Faciane led the Warhawks with two RBI and two runs as he tallied one hit and one walk in the series opening win over UALR.
The loss was tagged to Trojan starter Travis McDonald as he allowed six runs (four earned) on three hits and four walks with two strikeouts in 3.2 innings. Tanner Rockwell led UALR at the plate with three hits, one RBI and one run.
ULM 11, UALR 10 (11 innings)
UALR jumped on the scoreboard first with a pair of runs in the top of the second inning to take and early 2-0 lead. The Warhawks responded with six runs (all unearned) of their own to surge ahead 6-2 after two complete innings.
The visiting Trojans chipped away at the Warhawk lead and evened the contest at 6-6 after three and a half innings of play.
ULM answered right back and took a 7-6 lead in the home half of the fourth as Anthony Herrera came around to score when Jacob Stockton reached on a fielding error at second base.
The two teams traded single runs in the fifth and sixth innings to set the score at 9-8 in favor of the Warhawks. In the top of the ninth, UALR regained the lead with one-out, two-run homer to left off of the bat of Ben Crumpton. Crumpton's homer gave UALR an 10-9 lead.
ULM was able to send the game into extra innings as Dalton Herrington drove in Kodie Tidwell with a two-out RBI double to the gap in right center to even the game at 10-10.
Keelin Rasch led off the bottom of the 11th with a single through the left side and when Stockton reached on an error at first base, Rasch attempted to score all the way from first but was tagged out at home. Stockton reached third on the previous play and UALR opted to intentionally walk Tidwell and Justin Stawychny to set up a force play. Herrington, facing a 3-1 count, singled to the gap in right center to give the Warhawks the 11-10 win in extra innings.
Tyler Bray (2-3) earned the win in relief as he allowed just one hit with five strikeouts in 2.2 innings of work.
Herrington and Rasch led the Warhawks offensively as the duo combined for six hits and five RBI. Herrington also scored a pair of runs in the win.
Ethan Schlechte was tagged with the loss as he allowed two runs (one earned) on three hits and two walks with five strikeouts in 4.2 innings of relief. Crumpton led the Trojans with three hits, two runs and two RBI.
