ULM Looks to Climb SBC Standings in Final Road Swing

MONROE, La. -- The ULM women's basketball team begins its final regular-season road trip at Sun Belt Conference leader Arkansas State. Wednesday's game is set to tip-off at 7:05 p.m. and the game will air on KRJO 1680AM in Monroe with Nick White on the call.

Tip-Off
• ULM will hit the road for its final two regular season games beginning Wednesday night at Arkansas State... ULM will play its final regular season game of the season Saturday at UALR.
• On senior day, the Warhawks and the visiting Trojans lit up the scoreboard as they combined for 178 total points as ULM claimed a 91-87 win over Troy (Mar. 1).
• The 91 points scored by ULM were the most since they tallied 92 in a win over Alcorn State on Feb. 14.. On the season, ULM is 3-0 when scoring 90 or more points in a game.
• Five Warhawks reached double-figures in the home finale... Alexar Tugler led the way with 14 points, followed by Elexar Tugler (13), Sharnice Brooks (12), Christina Gray (12) and Jasmine Shaw (12).
• ULM opened its final homestand with a 76-70 win over South Alabama on Feb. 26.. Five different Warhawks reached double-figures in the game and the squad was led by Alexar Tugler (15) and Ashleigh Simmons (15)... Sharnice Brooks added 14, while Jasmine Shaw and Christina Gray added 11 and 10, respectively.
• ULM closed out a two-game swing through the eastern part of the Sun Belt footprint with a 92-63 loss at Western Kentucky (Feb. 22)... Sharnice Brooks paced the Warhawks with 19 points and five rebounds in 19 minutes of action... Brooks finished the game 8-of-11 from the floor and 3-of-4 at the line.
Ashleigh Simmons netted 13 points and dished out four assists against the Lady Toppers and the senior is now just three points shy of becoming the 17th player in program history to score 1,000 or more points in a career.
• The Warhawks battled until the end but suffered an 85-77 loss at Georgia State on Feb. 19... Alexar Tugler led the Warhawks in Atlanta as she tallied 18 points... Three other Warhawks reached double figures against the Panthers (Ashleigh Simmons, 14; Elexar Tugler, 10; Jasmine Shaw, 10).
• The Warhawks fell to UALR on Feb. 15 in the first meeting of the season between the two squads... Ashleigh Simmons led the Warhawks with 15 points and eight rebounds in the loss... Alexar Tugler also reached double figures as she tallied 11.
• ULM defeated UT Arlington, 70-65, to start the two-game homestand (Feb. 12)... Ashleigh Simmons (16 points) was one of three Warhawks to reach double-figures in the come-from-behind win... Elexar Tugler and Jasmine Shaw each poured in 12.
• The win over UTA was the 300th conference win for the Warhawks (247 Southland, 53 Sun Belt).
Ashleigh Simmons led the Warhawks with her eighth double-double after scoring 26 points and grabbing 11 rebounds... Simmons also added two assists, one block and one steal in 34 minutes of action.
Alexar Tugler was the only other Warhawk to reach double-figures in San Marcos, Texas, as she finished with 11 points.
Jasmine Shaw paced the Warhawks with 14 points in the win at UL-Lafayette... Alexar Tugler chipped in 13 points while Ashleigh Simmons (nine points, 10 rebounds) and Alayshia Hunter (eight points, eight rebounds) fell just shy of double-doubles.
• The Warhawks closed out a three-game homestand on Jan. 29... ULM suffered an 80-68 setback at the hands of Arkansas State... Jasmine Shaw led ULM with a game-high 17 points, while Alexar Tugler added 12 and Ashleigh Simmons tallied 10.

Arkansas State enters the Wednesday night tilt with an 18-10 overall record and a 12-4 mark in Sun Belt play... Arkansas State has won five of its last seven games... It's on losses are a one-point loss at UL-Lafayette and most recently a nine-point loss at UALR.

Aundrea Gamble is one of four Red Wolves averaging double-figures as she is averaging 18.4 ppg... The other three Arkansas State players scoring 10 or more points per game are: Jane Morrill (12.5 ppg), Hanna Qedan (10.7 ppg) and Jalen O'Bannon (10.6 ppg)... Gamble is also the team's leader in assists (108) and steals (60)... O'Bannon leads the team with 6.9 rebounds per game while Gamble ranks second with 6.2 rpg.

As a team, the Red Wolves are averaging 72.5 ppg and are outscoring their opponents by just under 5.0 ppg... The squad is also out rebounding their opponents by just over four rebounds per game (38.1 rpg [ASU], 33.8 [Opp]).

Arkansas State will close out its season Saturday when it hosts UL-Lafayette in the regular-season finale.

Ashleigh Simmons was named the Sun Belt Conference's Player of the Week on Mar. 3... Simmons became the 17th player in ULM women's basketball history to go over the 1,000-career point mark as she hit the mark early on against South Alabama Wednesday night.

The Hawkins, Texas product was one of five Warhawks to reach double-figures in the win over the Jaguars. She was 5-of-10 from the floor and finished with 15 points and also grabbed seven rebounds. She was also a perfect 5-of-5 from the line.

Simmons was an integral part of the team's high-scoring win over Troy Saturday on senior day. She was strong on the glass as she grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds. Simmons also dished out three assists and two steals while tallying seven points in her final game inside Fant-Ewing Coliseum.

MONROE, La. (Mar. 1, 2014) -- The ULM women's basketball program concluded its home schedule with a 91-87 victory over Troy Saturday afternoon at Fant-Ewing Coliseum.

The Warhawks (11-17, 7-9 SBC) outscored the Trojans (11-17, 7-9 SBC) 13-10 over the final 3:40 to secure the four point victory. After seven ties and 16 lead changes, the Warhawks finally grabbed a 79-78 lead with 3:18 remaining and held on to beat the Trojans.

Seniors Alexar and Elexar Tugler paced the ULM offense with 14 and 13 points, respectively. Jasmine Shaw, Christina Gray and Sharnice Brooks added 12 apiece to cap the double-digit scoring. Ashleigh Simmons brought down a game-high 11 rebounds.

As a team, ULM was 17-of-24 at the free throw line, including 15-of-19 in the second half. The Warhawks' bench also outscored the Trojans' reserves, 33-10

ULM opened the game on a 6-2 run over the first three-and-a-half minutes of action before Troy took their first lead of the game at 7-6 thanks to a 5-0 spurt of their own.

The two teams battled back and forth and with 3:22 to play in the opening half the game was tied at 32-32.

The Trojans were able to take a 44-38 lead into the locker room at intermission as the visitors used a 12-6 run to close the half.

In the first 20 minutes, the two teams were nearly even in field goal shooting as ULM shot 40.5% from the floor (17-42), while Troy was at an even 40.0% (14-35). Troy shot 12-of-13 at the line (92.3%) in the opening period, compared to ULM's 2-for-5 mark (40.0%).

The Warhawks began the second half by cutting the Trojan lead to just two at the 18:51 mark when Alexar Tugler hit a lay-up. The back-and-forth action would continue until the 16:37 mark when Shaw's jumper tied the game at 48.

Troy remained on top by as much as eight, leading 65-57 at the 10:18 mark, but an 8-0 ULM spurt spawned by excellent free throw shooting drew the game even at 65 with 8:19 to go.

The Trojans responded with a 10-5 rally to gain a five point advantage with 5:19 remaining in the contest, however a long-range three from Alexar Tugler followed by a lay-up by Sharnice Brooks tied the game for the seventh and final time. Alexar Tugler then hit a jump shot with 4:09 to go to give the Warhawks a 77-75 lead.

Troy's Joanna Harden, who tallied a game-high 30 points, hit a lay-up with 3:40 remaining to put her squad back on top, however ULM answered just 22 seconds later with a lay-up by Christina Gray to give the Warhawks a 79-78 lead.
