LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – The ULM women's basketball program got off to a hot start, but UALR used a big second-half run to take a 72-62 decision on Saturday at the Jack Stephens Center in the final game of the regular season.
Ashleigh Simmons paced ULM (11-19, 7-11 SBC) with 19 points and eight rebounds. She converted on 11-of-12 free throws.
Alexar Tugler netted 17 points, including 4-of-5 from three-point range.
Alayshia Hunter also aided the attack with 10 points.
UALR (17-11, 12-6 SBC) was led by Taylor Ford's 24 points. Shanity James recorded 19 points and 10 rebounds, and Taylor Gualt tallied 17 points.
ULM shot 55.4 percent from the field in the first half but was held to a 32.0 clip in the second half. It held a 36-27 advantage on the rebounds for the game.
The Warhawks started down 6-2 when they went on a 7-0 run, with points from four different players, to go up 9-6 with 13:45 left in the first half. ULM extended the lead to 17-13 after a basket by
Jasmine Taylor at the 10:52 mark.
ULM used a long jumper by
Jade Wharton and a three-pointer by
Alexar Tugler to go up 24-15, forcing UALR into calling a timeout with 6:25 remaining.
The Trojans were able to cut the deficit to 31-29 heading into the intermission.
The Warhawks began the second half on an 11-2 run to go up 42-31. ULM kept it going as a three-pointer by
Alexar Tugler gave ULM a 45-33 advantage with 13:19 left.
ULM led 49-41 when UALR responded with a 12-0 run to go up 53-49 at the 7:48 mark.
The Warhawks will now focus their attention on the Sun Belt Conference Championships as they will take on regular season champion Arkansas State on Wednesday at 12:00 p.m. in New Orleans.
