CONWAY, Ark. -- The ULM softball program dropped a 7-6 contest at Central Arkansas Tuesday evening at Farris Field.
The Warhawks (18-17) were able to overcome a late three-run deficit but it was not enough as the Sugar Bears' (19-27) Ashley Boswell hit a walk-off home run in the bottom of the seventh with one out. It was her second blast of the day.
Rochelle Roberts led ULM with a 2-for-3 outing. Alexis Cacioppo and Faith Bohack each tallied two RBI in the game to help the offensive effort.
UCA got out to an early 3-0 lead. The Sugar Bears plated their first two runs in the bottom of the second on a triple by Amy Gunnells and a double from Hannah Stirton. The third run came in the bottom of the third on Boswell's RBI single.
ULM was able to answer all three runs in the top of the fourth. Rochelle Roberts reached on a one-out bunt single and stole second to set the stage for Alexis Cacioppo. The reigning female Warhawk of the Week doubled to center to score Roberts and scratch the Warhawks' first run. Then, Faith Bohack smashed a two-out, two-run home run to tie the game at 3-3.
UCA's Briana Whisenhunt hit an RBI single with one out to give the Sugar Bears a 4-3 lead.
Boswell then smashed her first home run of the day in the bottom of the fifth. It was a two-run blast that would give UCA a 6-3 lead.
Over the next two frames, the Warhawks would be able to tie the game at three.
Back-to-back sacrifice flies from Cacioppo and McKinley Marks in the top of the sixth put the Warhawks within a run. Reliever Samantha Hamby sent the Sugar Bears down in order in the bottom of the sixth.
Amye Barre tied the game once again as she hit a pinch-hit solo homer with one down in the top of the seventh. It was the second home run of the season and her career.
The Warhawks resume conference play when they return to action Friday for a double header at UT Arlington beginning at 5 p.m.
