NATCHITOCHES, La. -- ULM and Northwestern State concluded its 2014 home-and-home series Tuesday night with the homestanding Demons claiming a 6-1 victory at Brown-Stroud Field.
ULM (16-23) jumped out to an early 1-0 lead as Dalton Herrington drove in Anthony Herrera with a single to the gap in left center.
The Demons (22-14) took the lead with a pair of runs in the home half of the second inning. Northwestern State extended the lead to 3-1 with a single run in the bottom of the fifth.
Northwestern State plated a trio of runs as the Warhawks used three pitchers to end the seventh inning. The three-run frame gave the Demons a 6-1 lead and that wound up being the final score as ULM was unable to push any runs across.
ULM starter Payton Coddou was tagged with the loss and he falls to 0-2 on the season. The right-hander allowed three runs on six hits with one walk and two strikeouts in 4.1 innings of work.
Reliever Evan Tidwell earned the win for the Demons as he tossed four scoreless innings, allowing two hits and recording two strikeouts.
The Warhawks will return to action this weekend with a three-game series at Arkansas State. Game one of the series will take place Friday evening at 5 p.m., followed by contests on Saturday (6 p.m.) and Sunday (1 p.m.).
