Warhawks Drop Middle Contest to Arkansas State

JONESBORO, Ark. -- ULM fell behind 8-0 early and the Warhawks were unable to complete the comeback as they fell to Arkansas State by a score of 11-7 Saturday night at Kell Field/Tomlinson Stadium.

Like it did on Friday night, the Red Wolves (23-16, 12-5) tallied three runs in the bottom of the first inning to take an early 3-0 lead. Arkansas State added five more runs in the home half of the third inning to push its lead to 8-0.

ULM (16-25, 7-10) finally broke through and scored its first runs of the game in the top of the sixth. Keelin Rasch tripled to the gap in left center that allowed Jeff Fuller and Cody Stone to score easily.

The two teams traded solo homers in the bottom of the sixth and top of the seventh to make the score 9-3 in favor of the Red Wolves. Arkansas State added two more runs in the bottom of the seventh to conclude its scoring for the night and make the score 11-3.

In the ninth the Warhawks made things interesting as Vincent Dellocono scored on a RBI single by Fuller and a three-run homer by Stone. Stone's homer made the score 11-7, but the Warhawks were unable to get any more runs as Arkansas State claimed the win.

ULM starter Chad Miller was tagged with the loss and falls to 2-2. Miller allowed eight runs on five hits with four walks.

Bryan Ayers (2-1) earned the win after allowing just two runs on four hits with three walks and seven punchouts in six innings. Cody Woodhouse earned his first save after pitching the final three innings.

The two teams will conclude the series tomorrow afternoon with first pitch slated for 1 p.m.

·       Keelin Rasch hit his second triple of the season in game two of the weekend series… Rasch drove in two with the triple for his 18th and 19th RBI of the season

·       Jacob Stockton hit the first homerun of his Warhawk career Saturday night.

·       Cody Stone hit his first homer of his career and his three-run bomb was the 22nd homer of the season for the Warhawks… Stone finished the game with career-highs in hits (two) and RBI (three).
