MOBILE, Ala. -- ULM led 3-0 early on, but South Alabama scored the next seven runs en route to a 7-4 win in the series opener Friday night at Stanky Field.
ULM (17-27, 7-12) jumped out to an early 3-0 lead as the Warhawks plated a trio of runs in the top half of the first inning. After a Justin Stawychny sacrifice fly allowed Kodie Tidwell to score, Dalton Herrington belted a two-run homer to right center to cap the inning.
South Alabama (18-23, 8-10) scored its first run of the game in the bottom of the second and tied the game at 3-3 with a pair of runs in the home half of the third inning. The Jaguars took their first lead of the game in the fourth. In the bottom of the fourth, South Alabama plated four runs to take a 7-3 lead.
In the fifth inning, Ross Moore led off the frame with a solo homer to left center to close the deficit to three runs at 7-4. Moore's homerun concluded the scoring Friday night as the Jaguars claimed the three-run win.
Payton Coddou (0-3) was tagged with the loss as he allowed six runs on seven hits with one walk in three innings of work.
Locke St. John (5-1) was credited with the win as the Jaguar starter allowed four hits and four runs with one walk and six strikeouts in 6.2 innings. Ben Taylor closed out the game and earned the save after allowing one walk with four strikeouts.
The Warhawks and the Jaguars will play game two of the weekend series Saturday evening with first pitch slated for 6:30 p.m.

· Friday's game marked the first game for the Warhawks in Mobile since the 2011 season… That season the Warhawks played three games at Stanky Field from Mar. 25-27.
· Dalton Herrington (seventh) and Ross Moore (second) each hit homers in Friday night's game… The homers were the 24th and 25th of the season for the Warhawks.
· Eight of the 11 runs in Friday's contest came with two outs or were a result of a play that was the second out in an inning.
