Navarrete Ties ULM Career Steals Record as Warhawks Fall Twice to Georgia State

Softball

MONROE, La. -- The ULM softball program suffered a sweep at the hands of Georgia State in a doubleheader Saturday at the ULM Softball Complex.

Miyuki Navarrete had a team-best five hits on the day. She also stole her 38th base of the season and tied Amy Pezdek's career mark of 83 swipes by stealing second late in game two.

The Warhawks (21-22, 5-11 Sun Belt) fell 3-1 in the opener then dropped a 14-4 decision in the nightcap.

GAME ONE: Georgia St. 3, ULM 1

The Warhawks dropped game one by a 3-1 tally. All four runs came in the sixth inning.

Samantha Hamby suffered the loss despite throwing five-and-two-thirds innings of no-hit ball.

The Panthers (28-23, 10-7 Sun Belt) took advantage of a couple of walks when MeQuilla Franklin smashed a two-run triple. It was the first hit of the contest for Georgia State. It also proved to be the game-winner.

GSU added an insurance run on Jessica Clifton's RBI single. ULM got one run back in the home half of that same sixth inning, when Sidney Coy reached on an error and drove in Faith Bohack from third.

The Warhawks accounted for eight hits as a team, with Navarrete, Bohack and Robbie Dailey each having a two-hit performance.

Courtney Dutreix robbed Megan Litumbe of a home run in the second inning in left field earlier in the game to preserve both the shutout and the no-hitter to that point.

GAME TWO: Georgia St. 14, ULM 4

Georgia State plated five runs in the third and eight unearned runs in the seventh as the Panthers defeated the Warhawks 14-4.

Despite a 3-for-4 performance by Navarrete, ULM was unable to contain a powerful Georgia State.

After back-to-back RBI hits for the Panthers earlier in the frame, Megan Letumbe capped the third inning scoring for GSU with a two-run homer.

The Warhawks were able to draw within a pair of runs, scoring three in the home half of that same inning. Alexis Cacioppo's two-run single finished the rally.

Georgia State got a single run in the fifth on Callie Alford's solo home run.

ULM, meanwhile, was able to tally one more run in the bottom of the seventh as Navarrete worked her way to third after a steal and an errant throw to second. She came home on a throwing error by the GSU catcher after Rochelle Roberts had flown out to left.

Tomorrow's series finale and senior day festivities has been moved up an hour to 12 p.m.
