ARLINGTON, Texas -- ULM jumped out to an early 3-0 lead, but the Warhawks could not complete the late comeback as they fell to UT Arlington, 10-8, Friday night at Clay Gould Ballpark.
The Warhawks (12-19, 4-6) plated the game's first run as Dalton Herrington delivered a two-run homer to right to put ULM in front, 2-0. Keelin Rasch followed with a solo blast to put the Warhawks ahead 3-0 after the top of the first.
UTA (13-17, 5-5) responded with three runs over the next two innings to even the game at 3-all. After the Warhawks took a 4-3 lead in the fourth, the Mavericks scored six of the next seven runs to take a 9-5 lead after five complete innings.
ULM tallied a single run in each of the final three innings, but could not add any other runs as they dropped the opener to UTA.
Chris Hunt (1-2) was tagged with the loss after allowing nine runs (six earned) in 4.1 innings of work. ULM's 4-5-6 hitters of Stawychny, Herrington and Rasch combined for eight hits, six runs and six RBI.
Zach Hobbs (2-0) earned the win in relief after allowing just one run in two innings of work.
Due to the threat of inclement weather in the Arlington area on Sunday, the two teams will conclude the series tomorrow afternoon with a twinbill starting at 2 p.m.

· Chris Hunt made his fourth consecutive Friday night start as he took the hill in the series opener at UT Arlington.
· Dalton Herrington and Keelin Rasch hit back-to-back homers in the first inning… It marked the second straight conference game that the Warhawks accomplished the feat… Prior to last weekend's finale vs. UALR, ULM last hit back-to-back homers since May 18, 2010 (Judd Edwards & Nick Wade).
· Justin Stawychny hit a homer over the left field wall in the seventh inning to give the junior outfielder three homers over his last two league games.
