LAFAYETTE, La. -- ULM evened the game at 5-5 in the top of the ninth, but UL-Lafayette scored the game-winning run in the bottom of the 14th to claim a 6-5 win Saturday at M.L. “Tigue” Moore Field.
The Warhawks (22-34, 11-19), for the third straight day, scored the first run of the game. In the top of the first, Keelin Rasch doubled with one out and Chet Simoneaux followed with a double of his own to drive in Rasch to give ULM an early 1-0 lead.
The Cajuns (49-7, 26-4) scored two runs in the bottom of the second and the bottom of the third to take a 4-1 lead. Three of UL-L's first four runs came on sacrifice flies.
The Warhawks scored their second run of the game in the top of the fourth to climb within two runs at 4-2. The Cajuns responded with a single run in the bottom of the fourth to push its lead back to three (5-2).
ULM scored a single run in the top of the fifth and the top of the sixth to close the gap to just one run at 5-4. Rasch and Ross Moore each tallied RBI doubles to trim the deficit. ULM evened the game at 5-5 as Vincent Dellocono scored on a wild pitch in the top of the ninth.
After scoreless frames in the 10th, 11th, 12th, and 13th, the Cajuns scored what proved to be the game-winner in the bottom of the 14th on a single to right by Seth Harrison.
Tyler Bray (8-5) took the hard luck loss as he allowed one run on five hits with three walks and two strikeouts in 7.1 innings. Martin Anderson (1-0) earned the win in relief as he tossed a scoreless top of the 14th.
Rasch led the way for the Warhawks going 5-for-7 with one run and one RBI; he started the game 5-for-5 with three doubles.
