MONROE, La. -- Athletics Hall of Fame member and former football player Chief Perry Beaver recently passed away at his home in Morris, Okla.
Beaver was a member of the then-NLU Indian football team from 1959 to 1960 after two seasons at the junior college level. While in Monroe, Beaver played on both sides of the ball (center and linebacker) for coach Jack Rowan. He was part of the 1998 Hall of Fame class.
After his collegiate career, he spent time in the NFL with the Green Bay Packers where he played for Vince Lombardi.
After his playing days were over, Beaver turned to coaching and in 25 seasons at Jenks (Okla.) HS, he compiled a 109-53 record and won two state titles as well as one state runner-up and three regional titles. He was inducted into the Oklahoma Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 1991.
Beaver was selected to the Muscogee Creek Nation Office of the Principal Chief in 1995 and served until 2003.
Beaver is survived by his wife, Mariam Beaver; a daughter, Robin L. Beaver; three sons, Brant Robb Beaver, Brent Beaver and Del Beaver; a brother, Pete Beaver; six sisters, Letha Mae Rutherford, Miley Hargis, Cora Sue Berryhill, Jean Froman, Hanna Beaver and Sally Beth Wittman; and three grandchildren.
