MONROE, La. – The ULM soccer program passed its first test of the 2014 campaign on Tuesday as it defeated Belhaven 3-0 in a 60-minute exhibition game at the ULM Soccer Complex.
The Warhawks wasted little time as sophomore Jenna Pillon put the team on the board 1-0 just 49 seconds into the match. Pillon, a 2013 All-Louisiana First-Team selection, found the top right corner of the net after being setup by sophomores Allie Dickson and Kylie Kukowski.
In the 14th minute, sophomore Mary Ashton Lembo finished off a shot from Kukowski about 20 yards out. Lembo settled the rebound and placed it in the back of the net. Pillon also earned an assist on the play.
Kukowski's big day was capped off in the second half on a goal inside the six-yard box. After passes from freshmen Karen Tamayo and Cassidy Kunicyn, Kukowski slid one past the keeper in the lower right corner to make it 3-0.
ULM outshot Belhaven 24-3, as the Warhawks fired 12 shots in each half. Kukowski, Kunicyn and sophomore Nancy Kirk each recorded a pair of shots on goal.
Goalkeepers Katherine Werther and Samantha Moreno each played 30 minutes, blocking a save apiece. Werther picked up the win after earning the start.
Redshirt-freshman Paige Reid was relied upon heavily in the back as she played a team-high 51 minutes. 23 different ULM student-athletes saw action in the contest.
For Belhaven, Haley Crosby registered a pair of shots while Jordan Morse took one off the bench.
The Warhawks will look to win another on Sunday when they open the regular season at Northwestern State at 1:00 p.m.
