Fehr Breaks ULM Assist Record in Hard Fought Defeat to SFA

Soccer

MONROE, La. – With assists on both ULM goals, junior Karlea Fehr became the all-time assists leader for the soccer program in a tough 3-2 defeat to Stephen F. Austin on Friday in the home opener at the ULM Soccer Complex.

Fehr, from Lakewood, Colo., entered the game one assist behind Chelsea Shriner's mark of 13 set in 2000-02. With the Warhawks (4-3) trailing 1-0, Fehr setup sophomore Jenna Pillon for the score in the ninth minute. In the middle of the box, Pillon took control of the cross from the left and found the bottom left corner of the net for her fifth goal of the season.

The Warhawks took the lead, 2-1 in the 28th minute off a corner kick header by freshman Danielle LaFrance. Fehr's corner found LaFrance perfectly placed right outside the six-yard box for her second score of the year. The corner upped Fehr's career assist mark to 14.

SFA (3-2-1) answered with a late goal right before halftime to make it even, 2-2. It was the second goal for Hanna Barker who scored on a rebound off her own shot inside the penalty box.

The teams battled back-and-forth in the second half until the Lady Jacks got a break-through in the 81st minute. After a corner kick from ULM, SFA turned it around into a counter attack and scored on a four-on-two fast break goal by Chelsea Raymond.

“We never gave up. It was a hard-fought game until the end and we were very resilient. I'm very proud of our girls and if we continue playing like this then we'll do really well,” said ULM head coach Roberto Mazza. “It was really nice to be back at home. We started out with six games on the road and I'm looking forward to having some more home matches.”

In net, sophomore Katherine Werther and freshman Samantha Moreno (1-3) split the duties for 45 minutes apiece. Werther made four saves while Moreno blocked six. Lillie Ehlert (3-2-1) tallied five saves for SFA.

Seven ULM student-athletes played 90 minutes in the contest including senior Cerene Arsenault, Fehr and junior Kelley O'Dwyer, redshirt-sophomore Antonia Land, Pillon and sophomores Mary Ashton Lembo and Allie Dickson

The Warhawks will close out the weekend Sunday at McNeese State at 1:00 p.m. at Cowgirl Field.
