PINE BLUFF, Ark. – Junior Karlea Fehr and sophomore Jenna Pillon each scored a pair of goals in a history-making victory for the ULM soccer program over Arkansas-Pine Bluff, 7-0 on Wednesday at the Lady Lions Soccer Field.
With the win, the Warhawks improved to 4-0 for the first time in program history. They also remain as the only team in the Sun Belt Conference that has not allowed a goal this season. The four consecutive shutouts are the most in school history at any point in a season.
ULM also broke single-game school records for most assists in a game with 13 and most shots with 52. Additionally, the 27 points in the game are second-most in school history, only behind the 30 it posted last season in a 9-0 victory over Grambling State.
“I am very proud of these girls. Starting out 4-0 and having the best start in program history is a great accomplishment for all of us,” said ULM head coach Roberto Mazza. “We have many players who can put the ball in the back of the net. Though more importantly, we have yet to concede a goal. We have been very organized and disciplined as a group. I am very happy with our level of play.”
On the year, ULM has outscored opponents 19-0.
ULM outshot UAPB (0-4) 52-1 in the contest, including a 17-1 mark in shots on goal. The Warhawks also held an 8-0 advantage in corner kicks.
Pillon got it started with a pair of goals in the first half. The first came in the seventh minute on a set pieces play. Sophomore Allie Dickson found sophomore Jenna Floyd just outside the box who fed Pillon on the right wing. Pillon dribbled around a couple of defenders and rolled it past the keeper.
In the 13th minute, Pillon increased the score to 2-0 with her fourth goal of the season. Her shot from just outside the penalty box on the left side found the near post in the lower left corner. The play was assisted by junior Kelley O'Dwyer and redshirt-sophomore Antonia Land.
Sophomore Kylie Kukowski made it 3-0 in the 39th minute after a cross from O'Dwyer on the right side. Kukowski was able to finish in the lower left corner, as sophomore Lauren Palmer also earned an assist after setting up the play.
The Warhawks kept it going in the second half as sophomore Mary Ashton Lembo's free kick in the 64th minute found the head of sophomore Amanda Borstelmann in the middle of the box. Borstelmann's header beat the keeper on the right side.
In the 78th minute, freshman Cassidy Kunicyn put in a cross from the right side and freshman Karen Tamayo finished from the six-yard box. Kukowski also earned an assist on the play to make it 5-0.
Just two minutes later, Fehr got in on the action after a cross. Borstelmann fed Floyd down the right wing and the cross found Fehr in perfect position to strike from the six-yard box and she upped the lead to 6-0.
Fehr capped it off with another in the 85th minute. Her deep shot from the right side beat the keeper for her third goal of the season. Land and freshman Danielle LaFrance registered assists on the goal.
Fehr led the team with 11 shots in the game including seven on goal.
Both sophomore Katherine Werther and freshman Samantha Moreno played 45 minutes in net. Werther picked up the win after earning the start and improved her record to 3-0.
