Lightning Strikes ULM?s Momentum, Warhawks Fall 4-0 at SLU

Soccer

HAMMOND, La. – The ULM soccer program dropped its first game of the season to Southeastern Louisiana 4-0 in a game that featured a pivotal 118-minute lightning delay on Friday at the Southeastern Soccer Complex. The game was then called after 78 minutes.

The Warhawks (4-1) trailed 2-0 at half when they came out in total control, firing on all cylinders. With ULM's momentum reaching its pinnacle, lightning struck forcing the student-athletes to evacuate the field and head indoors for shelter.

The game started at 4:00 p.m. and at 5:08 p.m. it was halted with 36 minutes remaining in the second half. At 7:06 p.m., the teams took the field again and SLU (5-0) re-gained all the momentum and scored two more. Bri Singh paved the way for the Lady Lions with a pair of goals.

A game must reach at least 70 minutes or else it is declared "No Contest."

The Warhawks registered nine shots in the game from nine different student-athletes including five on net. Freshman goalkeeper Samantha Moreno (1-1) made six saves after earning the start. On defense, sophomore Cameron Stoker played the whole way.

ULM will close out the weekend on Sunday with a game against Nicholls State at 1:00 p.m. at the Nicholls Soccer Complex. It will play its regular season home opener on Friday, Sept. 12 when it hosts Stephen F. Austin at 4:00 p.m. at the ULM Soccer Complex.
