ULM Drops Decision to Boise State

Volleyball

CONWAY, Ark. -- The ULM Volleyball team concludes its stay at the Sugar Bears Classic after Boise State topped the Warhawks, 3-0 (25-14, 25-12, 25-16) Saturday afternoon at the Prince Center in Conway, Ark.

“Overall, I feel we played better today,” head coach Patrick Hiltz said. “We were a little more focused on ourselves and the areas we know we need to be proficient. We got exactly what we needed out of this weekend. Now we need to get to work in practice and address the areas that were exposed as weaknesses.”

ULM falls to 2-5 on the young season with two of its scheduled three tournaments already under its belt.

Sophomore Kaitlyn Shearer displayed her efficiency, posting five kills on only eight attempts for a .500 swing percentage. Setter Bayleigh Hoffman tallied 20 assists, six digs, two aces and two kills as she continues to illustrate promising play in her freshman campaign.

Newcomers Kalena Caruthers and Taylor Zaeske chipped in with five kills apiece, while Hope Pawlik's streak of three-straight double-digit kill performances came to a halt after adding another five kills to the cause.

Although the Warhawks registered the same amount of kills (11) as the Broncs in the first set, ULM wasn't as efficient as their counterpart allowing Boise State to put the stanza away 25-14 due to a .400 offensive hitting percentage.

Despite being down, ULM showed resiliency all the way through the last set, forcing 11 tie scores and one lead change for the match.

For the first time this season, the Warhawks will play a midweek match when its travels to Nacogdoches, Texas for a 6:30 p.m. clash against Stephen F. Austin (2-4) on Wednesday.
