ULM Women?s Basketball Falls to Arkansas State

MONROE, La. – Daja Chase scored a career-high 14 points as the ULM women's basketball team dropped a 77-57 decision to Arkansas State on Monday night in Fant-Ewing Coliseum.

ULM (4-7, 0-2 Sun Belt) held the Red Wolves (8-5, 3-0 Sun Belt) to just 32 percent from the field in the first half, but Arkansas State used a second half run to take the lead and garner the win.

In addition her 14 points, the freshman grabbed five rebounds and collected two assists.

Sharnice Brooks matched Chase's points and had seven rebounds, three blocks and two assists.

Khadi Brown-Haywood led Arkansas State with 21 points.

Wharton hit a bucket to jump-start the Warhawks for the night.  Christina Gray added a free throw to give ULM a three-point advantage, but the Red Wolves responded with a shot from beyond the arc to draw even with 17:06 left in the half.

After a layup gave the visiting team a two-point lead, Brooks found the net with a layup for a 5-5 score.

Arkansas State's Hanna Qedan made a jumper and Jamie Ruffins hit one from the charity stripe to with 11:26 until the break to give the Red Wolves their largest lead of the half.

Chase and Brooks made back-to-back field goals, followed by a three-pointer from Chase, to help the Warhawks take a lead that they would hold for the remainder of the half. 

Starting at the 6:56 mark, Gray, Aundrea Davis and Brooks combined to shoot 5-5 from the line, giving ULM a 21-15 lead with 6:11 left in the half.

Jade Wharton's bucket with 2:33 remaining before the break gave the home team its largest advantage of the half (27-20).

After a series of free throws by the Red Wolves, the Warhawks took a 31-30 lead into the locker room.

Arkansas State started the second half on a 4-0 run, but a jumper by Gray cut the lead to 38-36 with 17:10 left in the game.

The Red Wolves then used an 8-0 run to spur their offense on as they grabbed the victory.

The Warhawks take the court again on Thursday as they travel to UT-Arlington for a 5:00 p.m. contest in College Park Center.
