How It Happened

--The Warhawks could not have asked for a better start. Garrett Smith completed passes to five different teammates, including a 35-yard strike to an open Kaylon Watson down the middle of the field for the score.

--A third-down pass from Smith was intercepted at short range by Eric Boggs, who returned it 16 yards before being pushed out-of-bounds at the ULM 2. Marcus Cox rushed it in on the next play to tie the game with six minutes, four seconds to play in the first quarter.

--Marcus Green got in on the scoring action early in the second quarter, pulling down a 31-yard touchdown catch that gave ULM the 14-10 lead again.

--The Mountaineers responded with a six-play, 78-yard drive that also went under three minutes. Malachi Jones' 43-yard scoring catch from Taylor Lamb made it a 17-14 Appalachian State lead.

--ULM continued to flex its offensive muscles in the ensuing drive, but Kaylon Watson was stopped short on a fourth-and-two at the Mountaineer 4. It was the end of a 14-play sequence.

--Lamb's 78-yard run on the next drive set him up for a 13-yard touchdown run a few plays later. Appalachian State took a 24-14 lead with three minutes to go in the first half.

--The Mountaineers benefitted in the second half on 43- and 58-yard touchdown passes from Lamb, who finished with 261 yards on the night.
