MONROE, La. – ULM basketball opened the season with lopsided wins and then pushed a pair of power-five conference schools to the brink which earned Majok Deng and Aundrea Davis Warhawk Male and Female of the Week, respectively.
Deng picked up his second career Warhawk of the Week award after leading ULM in scoring in each of its first two games. He reached double-figures in both outings and has now registered double-digits in 10 consecutive games dating back to last season.
The senior also swatted at least one block in each game including four against McMurry to tie his career-high. Deng got it started with a 14 point performance in just 22 minutes against McMurry to help the team to an 88-43 victory. It was ULM's largest season-opening win in school history.
The Adelaide, Australia native followed it up with 16 points against Minnesota as the Warhawks led 51-50 with 6:44 remaining in the contest. Deng shot at least 50 percent from the field in both games and went 5-6 (.833) from the free throw line.
Davis was lights-out against LSU on Sunday. She went four-for-five from long-range en route to her career-high 15 points. The senior point guard also dished out four assists in the game as she helped the Warhawks erase a 20-9 first quarter deficit.
The San Antonio, Texas native also distributed three assists and got her hands on three steals in ULM's 85-42 victory over Louisiana College to open the season. Davis started at the point in both contests.
The ULM women return to the court on Wednesday when it hosts LSU-Shreveport at 7:00 p.m. at Fant-Ewing Coliseum. The men will be in action on Thursday when they travel to Northwestern State for a 6:30 p.m. tip.
